Overnight French Toast Ingredients 1 loaf cinnamon bread or cinnamon raisin bread, preferable unsliced 4 Tbslp softened butter 12 large eggs 3 cups milk 1/3 cup granulated sugar 2 Tblsp vanilla extract 3 Tblsp bourbon (optional) 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg 1/4 tsp ground cardamom 1/2 tsp table salt Maple syrup 1. Butter bottom and sides of a 9X13" glass baking dish. Cut loaf into 1" slices. Butter one side of each slice, and arrange slices butter side up, slightly overlapping. 2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, bourbon (optional), nutmeg, cardamom, and salt. Pour custard over bread. 3. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. 4. Remove pan from refrigerator and let it come to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Bring a kettle of water to a boil. 5. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Set the baking pan into a roasting pan large enough to hold it and pour in enough boiling water to come half-way up the sides. Bake, uncovered, 50-60 minutes, until custard has set and toast is lightly browned.
